Mary's Story, Mary's Journey

Being the youngest daughter of Slim and Dorothy Hamden, Mary understood the dream of having your own business at an early age. The Dairy Bar has been family restaurant in Lake Jackson, Texas for over 50 years and from dinner cable discussions to on-the-job experiences Mary learned the value of a good work ethic and how to serve others. Mary's dream to keep her parents' legacy alive came true when Sherlyn Beauchamp shared her dream of owning a restaurant. Together, they created a partnership to keep the Dairy Bar open and it continues to be a welcome landmark in the community. 

Early in high school, Mary, had a dream of serving others as a physical therapist with her own healthcare business. This dream materialized in 1987 when Fitness & Rehabilitation Services became a reality. With the slogan and philosophy of "Hand to Hand Contact, Heart to Heart Care," she began by bringing services and treatments to the community in her outpatient clinic and by treating children in the early childhood Easter Seal program at the Brazoria County Work Activity Center. Then in 1995, her dream for a state-of-the-art facility came true when she moved Fitness & Rehabilitation Services, L.L.C. to its new home where outpatient Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology were incorporated into the services. One of her patients, William Castor, expressed the spirit of her core values when he stated, "This is not just a job, you are rebuilding lives. This is not a fitness facility; it is a house of dreams". 

Fitness & Rehabilitation Services, L.L.C. grew to include Wellness, Occupational Health and Massage Therapy programs. But it didn't stop there. She not only had her doors open, but continued to go out into the community volunteering to teach health and injury prevention at local schools, getting involved with Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life; guest speaking at local women's groups, colleges and businesses; participating in community and industry Health Fairs; conducting free wellness classes at the Civic Center; and supporting local business and industry through membership in the Rotary Club, the Chambers of Commerce in Brazosport , Angleton, and ABC. Fitness & Rehabilitation Services, L.L.C. provided service, support and education for our local industries through job-site analysis, pre-offer and fit for duty testing programs for 21 years. 

Because of her commitment to health and wellness, the dream that became a reality in 1987 continues to grow, reaching out to provide the highest quality service to the individual, the family, the Company, and the community. Mary Harnden is a successful entrepreneur with a passion to see people reach their health goals and live a vibrant life. 

The dream continues as the hands and hearts of service reach further outside our community to impact other cities, counties and states, all the while staying firmly rooted in the community where she carries out her life mission of service.
